The article examines the images of people’s governments of the 14th century, created by the chroniclers in the late medieval Siena. Their study is important for understanding the socio-political changes that took place in the city during this period
and peculiarities of perception of the power of governments (the Nine, the Twelve, the Reformers) of the urban community. The main criterion for evaluation by the chroniclers of the people’s governments are their ideas about «good» and «bad» government. In this system of govermental representations find their place between the poles of «good» and «bad» . The analysis of the people’s government at the city pages of the Chronicles shows, how the authors of the Chronicles of Siena came to the designed images of national governments, reflected the characteristics of their ideology and psychology. Representation by the chroniclers, in particular Donato
Neri and his son Neri that were members of the Twelve, of the Reformers as «good governance» seems, from the point of view of the author, an evidence of approval by the citizens of the political «course» of the authorities of the commune, aimed at preserving the «common good»: the balance between all the political forces of the city.
